Development of Initial Design Ideas

Now I have done some research on casual internet games in particular, such as Toy Story Mania, Sniper Assassin 5, Urban Sniper 2 and Exit Wound, amongst other sources that will help me with how I would like my game to look, I have found a lot of interesting things and I am fascinated by how they all work. It will be an exciting challenge to create my ideas over the next few weeks.

As I have been saying in my research on these games, I would like lots of colour in my game and I am still thinking I should go for the theme park ride idea. However, I am just a bit concerned about how it will work. Maybe the ride should be separated into different levels where you need to shoot all the targets to progress on the ride. A bit like a game with zombies in it and you have to shoot all the zombies to progress onto the next area.

I also may use the sniper effect for faraway targets like as in Urban Sniper 2 where you press the space bar to change views. I also would like to keep the controls simple by using the mouse to aim and shoot and maybe to change the camera position if needed.

Another thing to think about with an online game is multiplayer, which also fits in well with my theme park ride idea, because you normally share a cart with one other person and you compete to shoot targets and achieve the highest score out of everyone in your cart. I also think that it would also work well with not just local multiplayer, but online multiplayer as well, so you can play with anybody IN THE WORLD!

I could also include things to not shoot, such as astronauts, maybe, and if you do happen to shoot them, you will lose points. A bit like the Koala bears in the Carnival Shootout game I looked at. The one with cute animals in it.

I have also been thinking about a theme for my game, and I think that maybe an outer space sci fi theme may work well, similar to the Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin In Walt Disney World.

To develop this idea, I will have to draw sketches of design ideas of different things you'd expect to find in outer space, such as aliens, spaceships, planets and UFOs for targets. I will also have to stick round targets on them to make it clear to shoot the UFO's and aliens, spaceships and planets.

I would also maybe like to use lasers and neon light effects in my game, to make it different, as well as maybe normal colours and lighting.

  1. This section should include visual references. You state that "after more research in casual games". Which games did you play etc.
